פרויקט תיאורתי בנושא עבדות וזכויות האדם : A CLOUD OF HOPE
אדר' עמיחי ארבל
A
cloud of hope is an idea of a big scale structure building that meant to be the
symbol of hope and memory for the victims of slavery and the transatlantic
slave trade.
The
structure is an event and a performance of real people walking a side of walls
of hope like slaves walking to their freedom.
The
structure is planed of 2 big walls that are not parallel but yet not connected. Every
wall is built by segments of wood frames constructions in different
proportions. Every wood frame has a sheath of white lace in different
proportions and in the frame there are different kinds of ventilators that are
causing the lace to move and wander freely in the wind.

When
the structure works the impression of white and freely hope is coming, the
structure is a white cloud of hope, almost alive, with no function; the only
function is to be a structure of hope for peace and freedom. The
opposing structure of the cloud is the mix material ramp. The
ramp is walking path experience from the ground floor thorough the two big
walls and climbs to the roof and above the roof, to the sky and then it's
coming back progressively to the ground floor. The
ramp is a mix material ramp from a big one reason – to change the method
of the walking in deferent variety of difficulty. This
effect is achieved by a hierarchy of texture of the ramp. At first it is a
regular ramp made out of concrete then wood and then metal, those are fine
materials to walk on them.

But,
after a while the ramp is made out of basalt stones then exposed blocks, and
then it made out of wild thorns, splinters and thistles. In a paradox way as
the visitor walking thought the ramp up to the cloud of hope he
step by step having difficulty to walk freely and feel a lack of movements, a
lack of control in his on walking activity and body movements.
As
the visitors arriving to the upper ramp in the roof of the cloud the ramp
become almost impossible to walk on at this part of the structure the ramp is
made of gravel with big aggregate in different sizes and at the top of the roof
the ramp become sticky by use mud and rugged ground surface.
Paradoxically,
as the walker struggle to walk on the mix materials ramp he sees in a parallel
experience the aesthetic of the freely flying lace of the cloud. As the
walking become more difficult and almost impossible the structure's lace
becoming more longitude and unrestricted, dismissed and liberated – reminding
the walker the significance of freedom and creating an architecture environment
of identification, empathy and psychology involvement with real people who had
suffer from one of the biggest tragedy ever known to mankind.
